Noted essayist and translator Asit Mohanty, was awarded the First "Pratima Sahitya Samman 2023" for his significant impact on Odia literature. In the field of education, the First "Pratima Sikshya Samman 2023" was bestowed upon Trinath Sahoo, a revered educator, recognizing his lifelong commitment to teaching excellence. And traditional Dhokra artist, Basanti Behera, was presented with the First "Pratima Shilpi Samman 2023", celebrating her dedication to preserving ancient artistic practices.
The event featured an enlightening Memorial Lecture by Dr. Shefali Nandan, a distinguished scholar from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Dr. Nandan highlighted the crucial role of educators like Pratima Devi in today's society, emphasizing the importance of alternative educational methods and mental health awareness, particularly focusing on child psychology and stress management.
A special highlight of the event was the unveiling of Pratima Devi’s book "Sahaja Manisha", which explores her memoirs and innovative educational practices with children. This release underscored her enduring influence in the educational sector.
The ceremony was chaired by veteran poet and journalist Kedar Mishra, with notable guests including the editor of 'Sambad' and MLA Soumya Ranjan Pattnaik, who spoke on the need to preserve traditional arts and the vital role of educators in society.
Sumitra Parhi, managing trustee of Pratima Foundation, reaffirmed the organization's commitment to upholding the legacy of Pratima Devi. She announced that the Pratima Awards Festival would be held annually on May 4, commemorating Pratima Devi's birthday, as a tribute to her lifelong dedication to education, literature and the arts.
